You heard it right!
Recent figures show that 2026 has been the strongest year on record for new company registrations.
If you’re planning to start a business in Dublin or anywhere in Ireland, now is a good time.
Registrations continue to grow.
The first half of 2026 saw almost 15,000 new companies registered in Ireland.
That’s around a 13% increase compared to the same period in 2025. June alone recorded more than 2,700 new company registrations, making it the busiest month of the year so far.
Growth wasn’t limited to Dublin. Business registrations increased across 18 counties, with strong activity in Dublin, Limerick, Cork, Galway, Wicklow, Kilkenny, Kildare, Louth and Donegal.
This shows that confidence among Irish entrepreneurs remains strong despite wider economic challenges.
Why are more people starting businesses?
Several industries recorded healthy growth during the first half of the year.
Some of the fastest-growing sectors:
- Information Technology (IT)
- Manufacturing
- Construction
- Motor businesses
Many people are also choosing self-employment, consultancy, freelancing and online businesses.
Better digital tools and access to professional advice have made starting a business simpler than ever.
LTD Company Remains the Most Popular!
While Ireland offers several business structures, the Private Company Limited by Shares (LTD) continues to be the preferred option for most startups and small businesses.
Other company types, such as DACs, CLGs and ULCs, still have their place but are generally used for more specialized purposes.
AI is growing, but not in company names.
Artificial Intelligence continues to dominate business conversations.
Interestingly, fewer than 0.3% of newly registered companies included “AI” or “Artificial Intelligence” in their company name.
That doesn’t mean businesses aren’t using AI. Many startups are building AI into their products and services without making it part of their branding.
The trend suggests that founders are focusing on building sustainable businesses rather than following naming trends.
