THE FINANCE (LOCAL PROPERTY TAX) (AMENDMENT) BILL 2015

  • THE FINANCE (LOCAL PROPERTY TAX) (AMENDMENT) BILL 2015

The Minister for Finance Mr Michael Noonan TD, has published the Finance (Local Property Tax) (Amendment) (No.2) Bill 2015.

This follows the commitment given by the Minister in his Budget statement 2016 to seek Government approval to postpone the revaluation date for the Local Property Tax from 2016 to 2019. The postponement of the revaluation date means that home owners will not be faced with significant increases in their LPT in 2017 as a result of increased property values. This measure will also allow sufficient time for the other recommendations in the Report on the Review of the Local Property Tax to be considered in full. The Review was conducted by Dr Don Thornhill at the Minister's invitation.

The Bill also gives effect to two particular recommendations in the Review Report in relation to the pyrite exemption from LPT and reliefs from LPT in respect of properties occupied by persons with disabilities. Please click here to read the LPT Review Report.
